At Metro Eye Care healthy vision is more than just being able to read
the smallest line on the eye chart. At our facility, we will perform an
extensive eye health examination for all ages to detect any potentially
vision threatening condition. For a description of most of these
conditions, go to www.aoa.org and look under "Conditions and Concerns".
Detailed Examinations for All Age Groups
Pediatric Exams
It is highly recommended by the American Optometric Association for
children in their first year of life to have a vision and eye health
screening performed by a licensed eye specialist. An exam, once per
year thereafter, is also highly recommended. At Metro Eye Care, we have
all of the equipment and experience necessary to perform these exams.
Using special techniques and gentle care, we test children of all ages
for the common conditions of astigmatism, myopia, and hyperopia. We
will also dilate the pupils and perform an extensive eye health exam to
rule out diseases that can occur from birth such as amblyopia or "lazy
eye," strabismus or "crossed eyes," congenital cataracts, retinopathy
of pre-maturity, obstructed tear ducts, and ocular allergies.
Adult Exams
All adults should have an eye exam that includes eye health testing at
least once every year or two. At our office, we perform all of the
testing recommended by the AOA, as well as several other tests that are
included in our comprehensive exam at no extra charge. See list at left
for a sample of tests included in our basic exam.
Senior Exams
Because many eye diseases start later in life, at Metro Eye Care, we
place special emphasis on diagnosing and managing the many forms of
common geriatric eye diseases such as glaucoma, dry eyes, macular
degeneration, and cataracts, to name a few. Our doctor has extensive
experience in managing eye conditions that typically afflict senior
citizens. We use retinal imaging equipment and automated optic nerve
analysis to assist in diagnosing many of these problems.
